Artistry defined is “artistic quality or effect or workmanship.” A black woman is artistry in itself. Bold, daring, beautiful, strong, resilient, delicate. Combine artistry and a black woman and you have yourself a Jasmine Green ! Jasmine Green is a visual artist and poet from Pittsburgh,PA. Jasmine’s artwork is centered around giving full perspective to the black experience, both the experiences to protest and those to celebrate. Jasmine is part of the artist collective 1Hood Media, based in Pittsburgh, PA. 1Hood Media is a collective of socially conscious artists and activists, who believe that art is the best way to challenge inequity, raise awareness, and unify humanity. It is women like Jasmine that inspire me to be better, inspire, and spark change through my artistic gifts. I believe it is our duty as artists in our desired mediums to teach and help others do the same. Jasmine is a prime example of that, with the classes she teaches at Manchester Youth Development Center. To say I am inspired by Jasmine Green would be an understatement, but to say I am proud would be fitting. It feels good as a black woman, to see another black woman fighting for, helping, and representing us oh so well through art ! Thank-you Jasmine for all you do. Thank-you for representing me. Thank-you for seeing and celebrating me. Most importantly thank-you for reminding me that I matter. Black girls are many things, but one things for certain is they are absolute. They are absolutely capable of it all, and then some. If you would like to see more of the greatness that is Jasmine Green, be sure to keep on scrolling !
