Artistry defined is “artistic quality or effect or workmanship.” A black woman is artistry in itself. Bold, daring, beautiful, resilient, delicate. Combine artistry and a black woman and you have found yourself THE Alona Williams! Alona is a visionary, writer, and performer based in Pittsburgh, PA. Alona’s artwork is centered around giving full perspective to the black experience, both the experiences to protest and those to celebrate. It is women like Alona that inspire me to inspire, and spark change through my artistic gifts, and I believe it is our duty as artists in our desired mediums to teach and help others do the same. To say I am inspired by Alona Williams would be an understatement, but to say I am proud would be fitting. It feels good as a black woman, to see another black woman fighting for, helping, and representing us oh so well through art! Thank-you Alona for all you do. Thank-you for representing me. Thank-you for seeing and celebrating me. Most importantly thank-you for reminding me that I matter. Black women are many things, but one things for certain is they are absolute. They are absolutely capable of it all, and then some. If you would like to see more of the greatness that is Alona Williams, be sure to keep on scrolling!
