Getting To Know: Drew In Color

There is an unfair stigma towards those that undertake the role of content creation. Ironically these are the same individuals that aimlessly scroll down their TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube feeds in search of inspiration to be who they were called to be. We must celebrate and appreciate those who are courageous enough to create something new in a world that’s in a love affair with similarity. These creators are what make our world go round and explore pages ravaging. When I think of a Content Creator evoking a beautiful change only one name comes to mind. I was given the honor of engaging in a beautiful conversation with the one and only, Drew In Color. If you’re looking to be inspired and gifted with a new perspective, then this interview is for you.

Who are you?

Generally speaking, I am a creator. I'm a Content Creator, Designer, and Business Owner. Before social media, I’ve always been myself, before the big following, and engagement I was doing what I enjoyed.

You’re an incredible Fashion Creative, Content Creator, and TikToker, would you say you’re proud of that?

I am definitely proud of that. I take a lot of pride in what I do and who I am.

You are social media’s go-to when it comes to streetwear, sneaker culture, and silhouette appreciation, but how did you get to this point?

It came naturally, I’ve always been able to tell what looks good with what, what colors correlate, and what pieces complement one another. I got a grasp of proportions over the past two years, and that came through the experience of styling myself. I got into taking pictures in 2016, and have always been doing this, and it shows.

Would you say younger Drew is proud of who you’ve become?

Absolutely, I can acknowledge that she’s grown. I have the same level of respect for both versions of myself.

How would you describe your style as an adolescent, has it evolved?

My style has definitely evolved, growing up I didn’t have a lot of money, so I had to create with what I had. I grew conscious of fashion in middle school. I initially started as a sneakerhead, and later realized I had to build the style to pair with the sneakers. I’m a big advocate for wearing what you like whether that’s a five or ten-dollar thrifted piece. Everything we see in the fashion world repeats itself. Much of my style has been inherited from my parents, both are fly dressers from New York City.

Who and what inspires you to create?

My inspiration is my potential, and who I’m going to become. However, I do draw inspiration from people, shows, and books.

Would you say you lean toward the sustainable or fast fashion side?

I’m not necessarily an advocate for sustainability, I’m indifferent. I love the juxtaposition of styling expensive pieces with thrifted finds.

What advice would you give to someone who’s trying to break into the world of content creation?

I would advise them to start with what they have and start where they are. There isn’t a specific way, even though there may be specific techniques to do certain things. When I started this journey I averaged between fifty to a hundred likes, and watched it grow over time, it takes consistency. As it pertains to your personal style, you have to know who you are. Knowing yourself reflects your physical appearance.

What would you like people to know about you as a person?

There is a big misconception about who I am as a person. Oftentimes on TikTok, I had to perform, and people have built assumptions around the character I portrayed. At the core, I’m shy, down to earth, and a bit quiet.

What’s next for Drew In Color?

Youtube, I started on Youtube about five or six months ago, and I want to begin doing lifestyle content. Although I started in fashion, my end goal has always been lifestyle content. I also plan on doing more with the fashion brand I started in 2022, from cut and sewn cargos to hoodies, slacks, and shorts.
