To be a creator of any sort is to wear the role of the human experience like couture. I’ve always been in awe of those who could create something beautiful from something that was once thought. The inspiration and courage to create can be found in the kind of talent I was blessed to speak with today. Serena Allison is the Fashion Creative, Creative Director, and YouTuber who is making the human experience one to appreciate through everything she orchestrates. Who are you?
I am a Nigerian Fashion Content Creator. I create in any way I can, aside from the personal content I do make.
You’re an incredible Fashion Creative, Creative Director, and YouTuber, how are you able to juggle all of these creative gifts?
I can juggle all of these things because they keep me going, they are the reasons I wake up in the morning. I live and breathe creativity, I cannot imagine what life would be or how it would be without creativity. I love to create, and I enjoy the fluidity that comes with creativity. I love that creativity can be interpreted in different ways, and bring about joy to anyone who consumes it. I don’t see creativity as something I have to juggle, I see it as a privilege.
Your creative gifts serve many purposes, are any of those purposes one of the reasons you got into creativity?
Creativity is something I’ve always had an interest in, however, that interest didn’t peak until the brunt of the Covid Lockdown of 2020. During that time I was in the process of graduating high school, and getting into college, being the pandemic effected the system in many ways. Creativity served as my escape during that difficult time. I started off doing styling videos on IGTV, Painting Videos, and Selling Clothing, It wasn’t until 2022 that I found what direction I wanted to take with my creativity, but once it clicked, everything gradually evolved from my personal style to my engagement and target audience.
Has your definition of content creation changed since you’ve started your journey?
Absolutely! When I started content creation, I was simply trying to push out content no matter the context. I wasn’t sure of what I was doing, so I was doing a bit of everything and nothing at the same time. Over time the quality of my content changed, and that’s something I’ve learned to focus on. My perspective of content creation has evolved as my perspective of life itself has changed.
Everyone has a specific goal they want to reach in their careers, what would you say yours is?
The goal will always be growth, evolution, and development. I love change, and I’m not comfortable with things being the same for too long.
Would you say younger Serena is proud of who you’ve become?
Absolutely! Younger Serena would find me so cool, and that’s all I’m living for. I’m beginning to step into my voice and personal style. I’m beginning to discover more about myself every single day. The person I’ve become has much to do with who I surround myself with, they are a driving factor and a great influence on me. I wouldn’t be who or where I am without any of them.
Who and what inspires you to create?
I inspire myself. I am a huge inspiration to myself because I know my potential and capabilities. I believe I’m just scratching the surface, and that’s an inspiration within itself. I know where I wanna be, the goals I have, and the life I want to live, and I know all of these things will be achieved.
For someone trying to break their way into the world of content creation, what advice would you give them?
Start, and throw your shame out the window. No one cares as much as your imposter syndrome may lead you to believe. Social media is one of the greatest gifts we’ve been given in this generation. People are waiting to appreciate and value you and your content.
