Divinity / Femininity: Akudzwe Elsie Chiwa
Black women aren't a monolith, they're a waterfall filled with possibility, creativity, imagination, and nuance. I was recently invited to a beautiful exhibition called "Divinity / Femininity" by an incredible friend featuring artwork by the lovely Akudzwe Elsie Chiwa curated by the force that is Dominique Seneca. Foremost I must say all of these individuals are unprecedented, and disquisitions can and should be written on each of their behalves, but today I want to go in-depth on the remarkable Akudzwe Elsie Chiwa. Akudzwe is a Zimbabwean Contemporary Artist whose works make you feel like who you were before the world told you who you were. Akudzwe's work is an experience, and their storytelling abilities through said work are unparalleled. I am grateful to have experienced the glimmers of powerful artists coming together, and I implore you to familiarize yourself with their works and experience this exhibition in person.
