Whaffle: The Living Time-Capsule

“Come live with me, angel. Come live with me in comfort.” - Marvin Gaye. Growing up on Sunday mornings I was awakened to the sounds of Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin and smell of Pine Sol for our ritualistic family cleanings. As a child, I loathed those Sundays whenever they arose, but as an adult, I think back on those moments, wishing I could keep them forever. Things were simpler then, music was better, chips were twenty-five scents, and community meant just that: community. Everywhere I go, I am searching for the things that can take me back to the simpler moments of my childhood. I’ve been searching forever, but that search came to an end through this creative. This artist has single-handedly honored my childhood, and experience as a Black woman through everything he creates. Ladies, gents, and others, I humbly introduce you to Tashawn “Whaffle” Davis, the MultiMedia Artist who is beautifully sharing the Black experience. When I came across Tashawn’s work, nothing mattered. For the first time in a long time, everything was okay, and adulthood was put on pause. A true artist can put life on hold, to zoom in on its beautiful delicacies. In this case, Tashawn did that, while helping us all live, in comfort.
