How The Cast of Hoochie Daddies Illustrates the Essential Fashions of Masculine Black Lesbians: Taylor Waits

When navigating a Black queer space it is essential that one brings it to the runway. A quick glance inside a ball, themed bar night, or coordinated event can show you the future of fashion. The hairstyles, the shoes, the jewelry, the cars, the swag - it’s at an all-time high. There is no better place to see the vibrancy of gender expression than at a Black lesbian event. Whether you identify as a stud, femme, masc, or gender non-conforming you gon find somebody in an outfit that you want to wear. Now the beauty that lies in masculine presenting lesbians is always the styling. No matter how simple an outfit may seem, styling is about the details (Shoutout to Chi). The cast of Season 1 Hoochie Daddies from GETERDONE production’s “Wootie” exuded the quintessential qualities of any Black masculine lesbian’s closet. Make sure you tune in to the series on Tubi.com and support your local stud today.
Jerseys
As best displayed by JayKash - the jersey is essential to any Black masculine lesbian’s wardrobe. A jersey can be worn with pants, cargos, jeans, and even the coordinating shorts. Extra points if the jersey has personal customizations like a nickname or a dedication to your partner (in true lesbian fashion). If the jersey matches portions of the outfit you can increase the sauce level a thousand times over. Here are some of my favorite jersey combos from the show.
Snapbacks
Now regardless of your gender orientation being able to look good in a hat is a feat in and of itself. Finding that deliciously fitting and creative snapback takes a bit of creativity, ingenuity, and confidence. Snapbacks come in colorways of all varieties, patterns, special collaborations, and customizations. Getting your hat to perfectly accent the other pieces of your outfit isn’t easy. Yet these Black masculine lesbians make color coordination look easy. Being masculine doesn’t mean straying from certain colors. Colors and clothes have no gender.
T-Shirts
They aren’t blouses. They ain’t button-downs. And they rarely come in long sleeves. It’s a T-shirt. The perfect cut tee can elevate the arms, the chain, and the waist in just the right way. T-shirts can make a statement in and of themselves. Whether there is a witty statement or a cultural icon on the shirt - it’s essential. Not only do I think so, but so do the hoochie daddies. One of the first challenges on the show was creating a personally designed t-shirt that highlights their personalities, art forms, and passions. Plus a couple of them started fighting so it got extra juicy.
Colored Sneakers
No outfit is complete without shoes. Whether you prefer to dress more casually or like a more formal shoe, don’t stray from playing with colors. Since most of what these Hoochie Daddies did happened in the Florida Summer heat we were able to score a sneaker heavy season. The usual Nike staples like Airmax, Air Force, and Jordan were on colorful display every episode. From gold, orange, blue, patterned, and textured these hoochie daddies solidified this season as one for the sneakerheads.
Quality Underwear
Sagging is a Black fashion phenomenon. Regardless of which gender owns the wagon, sagging allows all of us to enjoy some booty during our daily activities. I love when Black lesbians sag though because as opposed to straight cis men barely wearing clean underwear under their jeans Black lesbians make a point to make the underwear an equal portion of the full fit. The underwear often color coordinates or comes from a culturally significant brand so it’s shown off gleefully. When paired with a crop top or a t-shirt all the baddies can see your abs or shape - stud shapewear.
