Odus Smith: The Only Him Story
In a well-saturated world there lies many underlying details. In the fashion industry, it’s small brands and local designers like myself, Odus Smith! I started buying clothing to make sure I looked well and curated my own style. Over the years, I found myself wanting to create my own clothing and started my brand “Only God Can Bench Us”! After a few small collections and a growth period, I decided to change the Name to “Only Him” which translates to the public, “No matter the situation, storm, or blessing, It’s Only Him!
Over time that transformed into my interest in modeling and designing clothing. Being able to navigate around trends and fast fashion to create unique pieces is more of an art form than “just design”. Fashion is an art form on its own from the details to the pattern of the piece. From the flow of the clothing to the feeling it gives you. With that, I found the substance I needed to create my clothing. I use different forms of media as my foundation to build my clothing. From streetwear to luxury, I use the spectrum to collide different genres of fashion to find the balance in which the clothes can transcend time and be worn at any point or occasion. My latest staple was my “Mink V-Neck Pullover Sweater” which brought the public a heavyweight soft textured sweater to wear during those blistering cold days!
Instead of creating staple pieces, I make your closet faves with a taste of my mind. From textures to colors to weight and cut, I build pieces for everyday and special occasions. With modernizing older concepts to creating simplistic essentials, I make clothing for the everyday Joes, Jules, and fashion junkies! I recently had a manufacturing issue that made me want to quit. The product was three months behind and made with the wrong fabric. Even though I dealt with major delays and product issues, showcasing myself through my pieces built support and rapport with my customers! It gave me the motivation to never give up, and continue to work for what I want!
“Faith without Works is a dead thing”. Now I’ve been blessed with opportunities to showcase my brand in full capacity and full capsules! From someone who gave up and was still blessed after not wanting to pursue my dreams, I wanted to encourage you today to work for what you want! Create that new thing that will change society! Pray over it, give it over to God, no matter the journey, good or bad, winning or losing, Its Only Him!
