Getting to Know: Rashane Elston

Rashane Elston is a multi-talented fashion designer who is reshaping the very seam of Anniston, Alabama. Elston is the CEO of the clothing brand “Myesia Zhanay” and creates beautiful pieces that are giving the fashion girls what they need. I was given the opportunity to interview Ms.Elston about her love for fashion design and “Myesia Zhanay”. Check out Rashane’s insightful answers below!

Why did you decide to choose fashion design as a career?

I chose fashion design as a career, the day I realized it was something I was great at! I love learning how to make new pieces. Growing up I never really had anything I was “good at”, although I loved playing basketball I wasn’t as coordinated as the rest so it was hard to keep up. One day I stumbled across a fashion show and saw them designing dresses. I immediately thought to myself, I can do that! The very same day I designed a t-shirt dress by hand, all from watching a Youtube video!

What is your favorite part of being a fashion designer?

The feeling I get when I make a new piece is one of my favorite parts of being a fashion designer. When you look good, you feel good. I love being able to make my customers feel confident, fly, and sexy in what they’re wearing.

The designs you’ve created are nothing short of brilliant, but who and which things were your inspiration while creating such designs?

Thank you, my nanna who passed away a few years ago and my son who is currently two years old are my GREATEST inspirations behind ALL of my designs. Losing my nanna was probably the hardest experience I’ve ever dealt with, she was the one who introduced me to thrift stores which is where ninety percent of my material and creativity comes from. My son is my inspiration because I get to teach someone everything I know, and watching him learn is an amazing experience. I have my own personal mini model!

Define Fashion?

Fashion to me is hidden self confidence. I know some of the shyest people that have become outgoing people once they styled themselves. Fashion is a true act of self expression.

What made you decide to start your brand?

I decided to start my brand after having a conversation with my uncle who is pretty big in the fashion industry. After my uncle noticed that designing and styling clothing was my talent he took me on a lunch date and helped me brainstorm brand names. He then went on to purchase my very first sewing machine, and gave me forty dollars to design him three different suits. From that point on I knew that I wanted to start my own clothing brand.

What’s next for you and your brand?

Atlanta or California, although I love my hometown Anniston, Alabama I’ve made my mark here. Now it is time I go to another state and build my fashion empire. My goal is to participate in as many fashion shows in Atlanta as I possibly can before 2021 comes to an end. I want to officially open my own store, with hopes that my favorite celebs like Teyana Taylor will wear my clothing.

What do you want readers to know about you apart from design?

I am a female hustler first, designing clothing came after that. In layman's terms, before I ever decided to become a fashion designer, my goal was to be successful. Whether that meant cutting up jeans or wielding car parts, I was determined to make a name for myself.

Any up and coming designers we should be privy to?

Everyone should be on the lookout for Jamie Perryon CEO of “High Quality The Label”, Norman Dunn CEO of “Chasing Checks”, and last but not least, myself Rashane Elston CEO of “Myesia Zhanay”. We’ve got great things coming soon so stay tuned!

It’s safe to say that Rashane Elston will go on to be one of your favorite designers. I admire Rashane’s creative genius and talent. Rashane, you have such a bright future ahead of you in the fashion industry, and you have all of Styling By Chi’s support.
