Who are you?
My name is Gaelle - pronounced Guy-elle. I am a twenty six year old professional who decided not to let her childhood dream die. I was born a creative, but fashion has always had my heart. At the age of 8 years old, I created a “magazine” called “C’est Mon Style” which translates as “It’s my Style”. I drew outfits and accessories and promised myself to be known one day for my style and taste in fashion. I’ve always been the fashionista that I am today. Like many creatives I doubted myself when it came to picking a career, but in 2020 I found my way back when I decided to pursue Communications for my post graduate studies; and I have been happy since then. Outside of fashion I enjoy painting, food blogging, writing and traveling.
Why did you choose fashion styling as a career? …
The answer is simple. I chose fashion as a career because it always came to me naturally. When going out, I am the one my family and friends consult for fashion advice. I never get tired of fashion, and that’s how I know I’m doing the right thing.
What according to you is your favorite part of being a fashion stylist? …
My favorite part of being a stylist is the confidence that I see my clients gain as we work together. Being confident in your clothes is paramount. I don’t think anyone should wear something they are not feeling confident in, so my favorite part is making people feel like a million bucks.
Define fashion? …
Fashion is a lifestyle. We all need clothing, just like we need water and oxygen. Whatever your culture is, wherever you live and whatever your interest may be. Every day you wake up and pick something to wear. You picking an outfit and getting fashion inspiration is part of who we are as humans.
What made you decide to start your brand?
This is as transparent as I can be with individuals I don’t know but my story is for anyone who’s doubting themselves. I decided to build my brand during the pandemic in 2020, after being laid off. I woke up one day and said “welp I’m unemployed, bored and can’t go out, so I might as well sew”; then, what was once an idea became a real brand. I’m not proud to say this, but I really didn’t do enough research at the time nor was i passionate about sewing and tracking sales. My sales started declining and I lost confidence in my work so I stopped. Cold turkey. After losing my brother in 2021, I was in a very dark place and needed to do something to keep myself alive and occupied so I began taking online courses to stay busy. Then it dawned on me, my true calling was to be a fashion stylist. I’ve always been good at styling and my clients love my work as much as I love enhancing their looks.
What do you want readers to know about you apart from fashion styling?
I hope this does not sound cliche, but it’s never too late and do not afraid to do something you love. I always knew I wanted to work in the fashion field but when I was going off to college, I chickened out which resulted in me pursuing a degree that was I was not passionate about. For years, I was unhappy with my professional life. I, then, had to take a step back and think about my skills and things that I actually enjoy doing. I earned my Masters Degree in Communications with a concentration in Marketing, and during that time all of my assignments were related to fashion. Fashion laws, brands, stylists.. You name it. Through that I found my way back to fashion and started a clothing line, then my virtual styling services. Outside of that I love brunch!
