“People, when they say 'streetwear,' they miss the central component, which is that it's real people; it's clothes that are worn on the street.” - Virgil Abloh. When I wear any piece of clothing it needs to do three things, tell a story, keep me comfortable and stylish, and make me proud to wear it. I was recently blessed with the opportunity to partner with the talented Tamara Boyd of T. Rochelle Designs LLC and Inaam Salik of Urban 9 Apparel. These two creative forces unified to grant me the gift of feeling at home in Urban 9 Apparel clothing. Amazing right? For those who may not know, Urban 9 Apparel is a Streetwear Fashion Brand that takes influence from hip-hop culture. This brand was founded by Inaam Salik, a current Pittsburgh resident and Bronx, NY native. He was a former graffiti artist and has since decided to take up graphic design. His love for hip-hop is what influenced this brand with the likes of old-school hip-hop from the 80s and 90s. These garments are manufactured sustainably and the textiles are produced in America. These are luxury streetwear garments that are made of certified organic cotton. This brand merges hip-hop culture with consideration for the environment and I must say, the quality was superb but the intentionality in the design process was what catered to my heart posture. While styling these garments, I wanted them all to have their own personality, the kind of personality that helped the viewer and consumer realize streetwear is a way of life and a means of self-expression. We limit clothing to its physicality when we should embrace it for its functionality and ability to represent who we are as individuals. These pieces you will see below will be available via look-book today and for pre-sale later this month!
