Now That The Fun Is Over: An Interview With Saiko Kastelliano
I want to start this piece off with gratitude and thanks. When I look around me, I am surrounded by greats, legends, and artists who show me the best is possible, and remind me of the art that lives in the crevices of my life. Greatness is contagious, and respect is a prerequisite for an encounter with this artist. Saiko, you are a soul that is the epitome of radiance, and you are an artist that is laced with memorizing hooks. I celebrate your album, courage, and vulnerability to speak with me about your one-of-a-kind journey. You are a talent we’ve always needed in this world, and I am honored to write about it, listen to it, and watch it thrive. My dear readers, I think we can all take a page out of Saiko’s book, and create the fun and joy we’ve always deserved, now that it’s over.
Who is Saiko Kastelliano?
Saiko Kastelliano is an artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I’ve been creating and loving music since the tender age of ten. When I came up with the name Saiko, it stuck with me. I love expressing myself through art. It's storytelling in a fun way, and it’s a way to create an environment through your perspective as the artist. This is what “SK Camp” was inspired by, I expressed myself in music, fashion, and through my overall vibe.
What initiated your pursuit of music? (Take us back to the beginning)
My pursuit of music was initiated through the feelings that overtook me when I listened to it as a child. The energy I have toward music is indescribable. Since the age of ten, I came up with the name “Saiko” and it has stuck with me ever since. From that point, I started writing music in my notepad and performing at concerts and anywhere I could be seen, I loved the energy and attention.
What inspired you to make music?
I was inspired to make music after performing and realizing I could create my own sonic experience. I wanted to express how I felt and experienced life. I find it so fun to embrace what makes you different. I believe we as people should own who we are as individuals, and that’s what I put in my music.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I describe the music I create as feelings of goodness, high energy, confidence, bad bitch music, relatable music, and fun.
“Now That The Fun Is Over” … what a title, what a mantra. What does this project mean to you?
This project reflects the journey I’ve been on with life. This project has allowed me to express who I am as a creative person while introducing the world and my fanbase “SK Camp” to Saiko on another level.
This is a highly anticipated album, rightfully so, are you anxious about the response, or are you enjoying every stage of the journey?
This is a highly anticipated album and I am excited for this moment to show up and show out. I’m enjoying every step of the way.
Your music is in a league of its own, but it is still relatable. As an artist, it’s challenging to find that middle ground due to the nuances of music creation. How have you found that balance?
Yes, yes I appreciate that! I feel like my music and person are in their own lane. I’m confident in myself as a person, and I trust the process.I know if I’m feeling the mood and vibe, or get the inspiration to make a song it will be a relatable and dope ass track. I approach music creation through experience and feeling.
What is one message you would like to give to your fans?
One message I would like to give my fans is to make yourself your first priority, do what makes you happy, and tune into the things that bring you satisfaction and peace. I would also advise fans to listen to their gut for what they want in life. You can go and have anything in the world, you’re the shit, and you are chosen. Embrace what makes you different, you can, and will be successful.
What has helped you define success along your journey?
Something that helps me define success along my journey is enjoying it, maintaining happiness along the way, and having fun as I do it. I believe the journey is always the most fun part of the process. With that being said, I can say this album has been a success I’ve already experienced along the way, and it’s just the beginning, now that the fun is over!
