Before I begin, what does being an artist mean to you?

Being an artist means to be someone that uses creation, by any means, as an expressive outlet. Whether the art is made for public view, personal files, sales, etc, it doesn’t impact whether you can be considered an artist. Being an artist is really up to the individual, making the creation to consider themselves one.

Who are you?

I’m Venus Sol, a singer-songwriter based in Philadelphia for now. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but I grew up in NYC. I dip my toes in all sorts of things, such as modeling, acting, dance, poetry, painting, and much more. I like to try new things. I’m still learning, growing, and developing, so who I am is constantly morphing. To my core, I guess I can say I’m a free-spirit who likes to explore all that life has to offer.

When did you know being a singer/songwriter was your kryptonite?

Honestly, I never thought of it that way. I’ve sung since I was a toddler because it’s something I like to do. I was in a lot of music and vocal-related extracurriculars growing up. Music is just something I’ve always been surrounded by, so I never really think much of what I do; I just do it. People often tell me that my voice is soothing or makes them feel good, so I figured I could transmit that energy into some music and use my voice to build a community that could benefit from that sort of energy.

With cemented roots in New York and Pittsburgh, how has it inspired your sound?

This is a question we’ll have to circle back to a little down the road. What I can say now is that I feel that growing up in these different places has made me appreciate the idea of thinking outside of the box.

Do you believe that creativity helps individuals find out who they really are, or is it the other way around?

Creativity absolutely helps a person understand who they are. It’s through exploration that we find hidden parts of ourselves.

Would you say your younger self is proud of Venus Sol as of 2025?

I absolutely think she would be. She’s the one that keeps me grateful throughout this journey. I’m not necessarily where I want to be in most aspects of my life including within my entertainment career, so I think of all of the opportunities I’m able to attract and how far I’ve come and my inner child roots for me to just keep doing what I love no matter what.

What are three things, if you’re comfortable sharing, that you would like to accomplish this year?
I want to release my first EP! Stay tuned for more details. That’s my only artistic focus right now. Everything else I do will be me going with the flow of life and my creativity.
Who are five musical influences for you?

Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and Mariah Carey all inspire me vocally and career-wise. I’ve been studying Tyla a lot because I love her energy and coming up story. Doja Cat is someone who inspires me sound-wise. I admire her experimental expression.

What inspires you to keep going?

Gratitude for life is what keeps me going. There’s so much that I want to do, experience, and accomplish, but I know my time here won’t last forever. Tomorrow is never guaranteed, so I want to do as much as I can while I can.

What can we expect from you in 2025?

The only thing anyone should expect from me is the EP I mentioned. Other than that, I’ll just be existing and doing what feels right in the moment.
